About The Position

The Division Engineer is primarily responsible for planning, designing, execution, and project management activities associated with the safe and reliable management of the electrical distribution system as it pertains to system improvements, new business, and maintenance. The Division Engineer also ensures compliance with company tariffs, procedures, design standards, and code requirements.  

Key responsibilities include:

    • Manage the safe and timely completion of designs and estimates within budget for subtransmission and distribution system enhancements with emphasis on adherence to company standards, procedures, and policies, including designs for new business, replacements, relocations, maintenance, system upgrades and expansions. Provide technical assistance and direction to other personnel completing designs and estimates of distribution projects.
    • Work with Division personnel and other Company departments, performing distribution planning and engineering analysis of subtransmission and distribution systems to identify capacity or operational deficiencies and corresponding infrastructure improvement plans. Develop projects to correct and improve the safe and reliable operation of systems.
    • Review the physical condition of subtransmission and distribution systems and make engineering recommendations focused on safety for the replacement and/or enhancement of obsolete or inadequate facilities.
    • Coordinate major system initiatives and serve as project manager ensuring compliance with company requirements including safety, design standards, timeline and financial performance criteria. Participate in project development, planning, implementation, completion and process improvement efforts.
    • Work collaboratively with operations supervision and other Company departments to ensure safe and reliable delivery to meet company and customer expectations/commitments. Effectively utilize and provide technical support relating to the use of the energy delivery business systems.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of Division and function goals. Identify and implement improvements in Division operations designed to enhance safety, control costs and improve productivity.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree Engineering from an accredited college or university required. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred. Preference is to have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination or have the Professional Engineer (P.E.) License. Three or more years of electric utility distribution or related engineering experience preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

The Division Engineer works a standard day-shift in an office and field environment which can include walking over rough terrain.  Subject to emergency call-out and duty supervisor responsibilities. May be called in after hours or required to work in unpleasant weather conditions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required. Working knowledge of corporate computer applications (OAS, CSS, DOJM, ADMS) and DEW preferred.  Must possess good customer service, analytical, decision making, communication, organization and human relations skills, and be able to interact effectively with various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Perform activities and annual reporting for compliance with the City’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit and natural resource regulations.
  • Assist in the development of stormwater policies and procedures.
  • Perform and track inspections of existing public and private stormwater water quality facilities; provide education and training on maintenance for property owners of both public and privately owned facilities.

About Position

Design Nine, Inc (DNI) is looking for highly motivated student(s) interested in assisting in advancement of railroad related projects from conception to construction. The railroad industry is fast paced where projects are conceived, developed and constructed on an accelerated timeline to meet the ever-changing market demands and growing economy. DNI has an established history of hiring drafting and engineering students who are considering a structural, transportation or general civil focus or discipline. One of every four DNI full-time staff comprise of past students that were initially hired as a co-op/intern for a single or multiple semester(s) that lead into part-time employment until graduation where they were then hired on full-time. Previous education and experience in the railroad industry is not required as much of our practice is hands-on skills that will be taught by our staff on a project-by-project basis. A co-op/intern would be tasked with assisting engineers in our office and at the job site performing field surveys, base plan development of existing site features in a CAD platform and progression of railroad and infrastructure designs along with other related drafting, technical and administrative tasks. About Position

Design Nine, Inc (DNI) is looking for highly motivated candidates(s) interested in assisting in advancement of railroad related projects from conception to construction. The railroad industry is fast paced where projects are conceived, developed and constructed on an accelerated timeline to meet the ever-changing market demands and growing economy. DNI has an established history of hiring drafting and engineering candidates who are considering a new or continuing a career path with a structural, transportation or general civil focus or discipline. Previous education and experience in the railroad industry is not required as much of our practice is hands-on skills that will be taught by our staff on a project-by-project basis. An entry level employee would be tasked with assisting engineers in our office and at the job site performing field surveys, base plan development of existing site features in a CAD platform and progression of railroad and infrastructure designs along with other related drafting, technical and administrative tasks. Our small office setting allows for ample opportunity for an entry level employees to expand their knowledge and experience in problem solving and accomplishing their assigned tasks in an environment where daily interaction, technical resources and guidance is readily accessible. Prior knowledge or basic experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation or a drafting software is preferred.

 

Qualifications:

  • Graduated from an ABET accredited College or University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil / Transportation / Structural / Site focus) or received a technical degree/certificate in drafting
  • Associates or Equivalent in CAD Drafting utilizing a background in either AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of engineering and or drafting practices and principles or a closely related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with good analytical, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle and commute to assigned task
  • Ability to work independently and express ideas and information in a concise manner in a team environment
  • Ability to work in various shifts commensurate with project requirements in the field and office that may include occasional out of state travel
  • Excellent multitasking, naturally inquisitive and efficient time management skills
  • Exhibit self-motivation and critical thinking by always looking for ways to improve their knowledge and skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD and or MicroStation

UMSL/Washington University – Joint Engineering Program

 

The UMSL/Washington University Joint Engineering Program has several openings for teaching mechanical and electrical engineering courses in Fall 2022.  A Master of Science in electrical or mechanical engineering, or the equivalent, and experience in the area of the course are required; see below for more information regarding expectations.

 

The courses needing instructors are:

Statics. This is a standard statics course taught during the day on the UMSL campus (Monday and Wednesday, 11-1215).  This course is required for all civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering students and serves as a preparation for the courses taught on the Washington University campus.

Dynamics. This is a standard dynamics course taught during the day on the UMSL campus (Monday and Wednesday 2-315).   This course is required for all civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering students.

Thermodynamics. This course is modeled after the course taught in the Mechanical Engineering and Material Science Department at Washington University.

JEE 3310 Electrical Engineering Laboratory. A nearly complete set of experiments is available. There is a weekly lecture on the topic of the lab and then the lab itself which is in the EE teaching lab in 208 Urbauer Hall.  This is a 3-unit class. Topics include frequency response, non-ideal op-amps, diodes, filters, grounding and noise, transistors, amplifiers, applications.

Adjunct Professors are hired for specific courses.  Every matching of a course with an instructor must be considered within the context of that instructor’s qualifications and the content of that course.

  • At least three years of prior educational experience at the college level, or equivalent, is preferred.
